Well, the site has been quiet this year, but there’s been plenty of work going on! In addition to the “normal” Iguassu stuff, I wrote a few independent film scores (as M.R. Mitchell) this year. Most of that stuff was piano and string based, which was a big change for me. No crazy delays and reverbs. Almost zero rhodes piano. Zero drums. No percussion. It was kind of refreshing. I’m going to compile some of my favorite sections from those scores and put them out pretty soon.
While I was working on that stuff, I would improvise with some piano riffs to get warmed up or just figure out new themes. Somebody heard me playing one day, and suggested I start recording those improvisations, too. At first, I was reluctant to do it. I always thought of my solo piano stuff as throwaways, or just warmups before I would start to record the real stuff each time. But I always liked the piano rework I made of Toao’s “Belove”, so why not do an entire recording of that style? That’s what this new record is: solo jazz piano. And it’s free, so go ahead and click on the song names below to download it. Of course, it is also available at the usual online shops for downloads, as well.
